Research and Pedagogy on South Asia and Global Hindu Traditions

January 21 - January 22

The Center for the Study of Hindu Traditions  (CHiTra), the Department of Religion, and the Office of the Vice-President of Research, University of Florida present a symposium on “Research and Pedagogy on South Asia and Global Hindu Traditions” for faculty and graduate Students in Florida on January 21 and 22, 2017.

The Center for the Study of Hindu Traditions (CHiTra) is hosting “Research and Pedagogy on South Asia and Global Hindu Traditions: A Symposium for Faculty and Graduate Students in Florida” on January 21 and 22. The symposium will include about sixteen presentations by faculty and graduate students and be held at the Political Science Conference Room, Anderson 216.

UF faculty parcitipation includes presentations by Muthusami Kumaran, Assistant Professor of Nonprofit Management & Community Organizations Department of Family, Youth & Community Sciences, University of Florida,“The Anatomy of a Study Abroad Program in India” and Jonathan Edelmann, Assistant Professor of Religion, Department of Religion, “Uncovering bhakti of karma, jñāna, and yoga in the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition.” The following graduate students from UF’s Department of Religion are also presenting their work in the symposium: Prea Persaud and Priyanka Ramlakhan,“Hinduism in Trinidad: Beyond Indentureship;”Richard J. Batchelor, The Beast and the East: Aleister Crowley, India, and the Cross-pollination of Esotericism; Dustin S. Hall, Śiva in the Rāmacaritamānas; and  Rodney Sebastian, Graduate Student, Department of Religion, “Religious Dance Dramas in Manipur: From Shamanistic rituals (in Lai Haraoba) to Bhakti-rasa in Manipuri Rāsa-līla).”
