Religion in the News: September 29, 2017

Religion has always been with us. And it isn’t going away.

Throughout history, it has expressed the deepest questions human beings can ask, and it has taken a central place in the lives of virtually all civilizations and cultures. Indeed, even today, we find religion everywhere we turn.

In order to illustrate how relevant religion is to global, and local, politics, economics, news, and culture we now have a weekly feature on our RELIGION+CULTURE blog called, “Religion in the News.” It features a few stories from around the world that have a particular religious angle or are explicitly about religion across traditions.

This week’s stories speak to the importance of religion to discussions of race, sport, tech, and more:

Of Tebow and Kaepernick: A Tale of Two Christians on their Knees (The Washington Post)
First Muslim college in US buys Lutheran seminary campus in Berkeley(RNS)
Mormon Whiteness and the Alt-Right (Sightings)
HOW DIWALI IS GROWING IN THE U.S., FROM DISNEY TO TIMES SQUARE (RNS)
FORMER UBER SELF-DRIVING TECH LEAD STARTING HIS OWN AI BASED RELIGION (EN GADGET)
